The horses? For the dudes to ride. what else? duh. that’s why it’s a DUDE ranch. lol

A dude is a city slicker. a person who’s clueless about horses, who pays for a ride and sits on the horse and lets the horse follow the other horse in front of them and down the trail they go. all happy and playing cowboy.

The cows are what the dudes will eat when they eat stakes, hamburgers and other barbecue food while at the dude ranch.

OR if there are steers, then they may be used for roping…..some dude ranches use the cows just for show….that means, letting the dudes ride around them in the pasture so they can play cowboy.

Dude ranches have the bottom of the bucket horses as far as I am concerned! They have to be totally gentle and quiet so that someone who knows absoulutely nothing about horses can get on them and go for a ride up a trail and be safe. All they do is walk and maybe a little trot. Riders just occupy space on top of them and that is it.

If there are cattle on the ranch, they might get the chance to ride behind some cows and move them form one area to another. They would probalby come and have cow steak for dinner.
