What would you do if you learned a mountain lion killed your mother’s 30 years old jackass?

February 202010

This is not a joke. My Mother lives on a small farm surrounded by ranch land in West Texas; and she is barely able to walk. She does have dogs to protect her house and someone staying with her most of the time, but I am very concerned.

I am sorry for your mom’s loss and declining health. I would have to say talk her into to moving closer to you or closer to the city. If she is in bad health perhaps she might consider moving. It would be safer and easier on her health wise and also bring you some comfort. I would not go after the lion, it is nature, as sad as we think it is, survival is the only thing that lion knows. He did not kill the donkey for the thrill of it, as man does, but simply because he was hungry. I hope you consider this and not any kind of revenge killing, the lion only felt hunger, not hate.

I probably wouldn’t do much. I might laugh when she is not around. After all things like that happen where she lives and it just happened. Not much anyone can do. Maybe you could buy her another one.

why don’t you consider moving her to a better home? living out in the wild is for people that can deal with it, and she sounds pretty helpless

We the elderly are an independent society . It drives our younger friends and relatives nuts, that we don’t want the city life anymore. We’ve lived it and peace is our goal for our final years. The price for peace (to us) is not high enough to relax the minds of our family and friends. I know, I live in the mountains of Nev. My family wants me to come live with them. We rarely if ever hear sirens It’s like Mayberry on Prozac. People enjoy an extremely peaceful life here. No drive by’s, no gang crap, no helicopters, no wild kids roaming the streets causing all kinds of problems(because they are bored) The trade off of and occasional lion seems attractive by comparison. I’d buy more dogs Really LARGE DOGS, and put motion censored lighting around the entire exterior of the property. She can also have a noise activation alarm system that she can control from a device around her neck. or on different walls in the house and on the property. She can carry a gun in her pocket.
She doesn’t want to leave so help find ways to make her life there safer.

I hope her town can send someone out or the government in her area to catch it. I think if it can kill an ass a dog is no threat. I dont know if she could shoot it. But there is animal control by the DNR or at least this is the case in MI with Bears. ONce they are on the prowl for meat there is not much to stop them. A mountain lion is very dangerous, and will attack humans, without cause, It has happened in the Redwoods or Sequoya, in CA and nearly killed a man and his wife tried beating it off and stabbed it is the eye and they both screamed at it and finally it walked away.
Call the authorities, it is why they are there and we pay taxes.! Good luck, do not take it lightly, animals are just that!
