My husband and I need a vacation destination…any suggestions?
February 182010
We live in California so we’re not looking for a tropical beach-y getaway. More of an old, cozy town or dude ranch like vacation. Something that is very nature-like, outdoorsy but still relaxing. We don’t want to spend a fortune either. We’re hoping to keep the whole thing under $2,000, all inclusive, for both of us. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks =)
Denver, Colorado is a good destination. I like the drive north through the mountains through the cities of Blackhawk and Central City where you can hit the casinos and then I enjoy the drive north to Estes Park where you can enter Rocky Mountain National Park and see the wildlife. Right now, the elk and bighorn sheep are coming down from the mountains to rest in the valleys. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a beaver working on his dam in parts of the park.
(I guess some folks didn’t read the fact that you didn’t want a beach vacation.) <puzzled look>

Colorado!!
I went there for a trip about 6 years ago, and it was one of the best trips I ever took. My favorite state to vacation to besides Michigan or Florida. We stayed at Estes Park, and there were days when it would be snowing in the (beautiful!) mountains, but it wasn’t cold enough to have to wear a jacket. It’s so gorgeous there, and you can horseback ride through the mountains!

You’re very close to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia Canada. Come visit here. Many wineries, outdoors, beaches, etc. Much like California, but far less crowded. You might like Osoyoos, where you can stay in a winery/spa resort, or something of that nature. Kelowna is beautiful, as is Penticton. There’s romantic getaways, quiet winery Bed & Breakfasts, beach resorts, and many other options you could consider for your budget.
