I use to steep my herbs both dried and fresh in white wine vinegar, bring it to the simmer and add them and allow the vinegar to absorb into the herb mix, then add them to a 30% mayo, 40% sour cream and 20% buttermilk into a mixture, salt and pepper, not I use fresh or garlic puree, I grate a small onion to in mine, and for the fresh herbs like chive, parsley, tarragon and even oregano, add them n the end to keep there green look, now if you like a more homogenized dressing buzz it in a blender.
References :
My favorite is Ken's brand restaurant buttermilk version. Nothing beats that including every one that you can make at home. Just tell them that you ran out of time or that you couldn't find all the ingredients you needed to make the other.

In the future, don't back yourself into a lie like this. This is minor and easily forgivable. The next one might be just as well meaning but not so forgivable. Your in-laws want the perfect man for their daughter. The perfect man is not one who knows how to make salad dressing. The perfect man is one who tells the truth.
